Genelec 8020A
Bi-Amplified Monitoring System
[The CD in the product pictures is to help scaling the
size of the product - it is not part of the product shipment]
Genelec introduces its smallest speaker system to date with the new 8020A (Height
with Iso-Pod™ 242 mm, Width 151 mm and Depth 142 mm). The system has been designed
for monitoring in difficult listening environments, particularly those compromised by
lack of space. However, size is no handicap to performance as the 8020A two-way active
monitoring system incorporates Genelec's acoustic design innovations to minimise all
forms of distortion.
The 8020A has a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE™), which
features relatively large internal volumes; softly curved edges and outstanding mechanical
strength. As a result, the imaging accuracy and low frequency extension with such a
compact enclosure are truly astounding.
The 8020A also incorporates the advanced
Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™),
which provides an amazingly smooth on and off axis response; while the long, curved
reflex port ends in a wide flare for excellent bass articulation.
Each monitor features a 105 mm (4 inch) bass driver along with a 19 mm (3/4 inch) tweeter
loaded into a new advanced Genelec Directivity Controlled Waveguide (DCW™). The free
field frequency response is 66 Hz to 20 kHz (± 2.5 dB). Maximum peak SPL output per
pair with music material is 105 dB at 1 m. Bass and treble are each powered by 20 watt amplifiers.
8020A can be combined with the new 7050B
Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE™) subwoofer to provide a powerful, bass-managed and
wide bandwidth surround sound monitoring system.

The HPR amplifier modules feature discrete component designs for the best possible performance.

Top live sound engineers use this technique. Using a spare AUX buss, send only those channels with bass content (kick drum, bass) to your subwoofer. You'll get cleaner sound and more control over low frequencies.

Rugged 3" casters on the HPR181W make load-in and load-out a breeze.
The ergonomic handles feature a non-slip rubberized grip. |

Why choose powered loudspeakers?
The powered speaker has become a staple for mobile DJs, musicians and AV professionals alike. The simplicity and scalability of these systems is the big draw. After all, what could be easier than just connecting the output of your DJ or live sound mixer directly to the speaker and turning everything on? For those who have been reluctant to join the powered speaker party because you felt that powered speaker amplification fell short of rack-mount amp quality, you are officially out of excuses.
Why choose QSC's HPR Series?
There's a QSC amplifier inside each HPR
Now you can get the legendary performance and reliability of QSC's rack mount amplifiers built into a powered loudspeaker. The power module is designed with the same top-quality components and rigorous standards you expect from any QSC amplifier. QSC is regarded as one of the leading amplifier manufacturers in the world. We have over 35 years experience making professional-grade amplifiers. When you buy an HPR Series powered loudspeaker, you know it is backed by the QSC quality and reliability you've come to expect.
Discrete component designs
Many powered speaker amplifier modules use low-cost, consumer-grade "chip amps" to decrease costs and simplify design. The HPR Series features a professional, discrete component design, hardened to withstand abuse and engineered to deliver the best possible performance even when pushed to the limit.
Signal ProcessingAn advantage of powered speakers is that the design engineers know everything about the system. This means that all the signal processing - crossover frequencies and slopes, EQ transfer functions, phase corrections and limiting - can be precisely tailored.
Multi-Band Limiting
Nothing kills speaker drivers faster than clipping, which happens when an amplifier is driven too hard. At best, this clipping will be annoying to listeners. At worst it may burn up the speaker voice-coils.
The HPR series protects itself (and your performance) through the use of active Multi-Band Limiting that detects excess level at each amplifier channel before clipping occurs. Then dynamic peak limiting is applied to the overall signal. The limiting parameters have been carefully set to maintain overall frequency balance and minimize audible "pumping". You will probably need to watch the rear panel LIMIT LED to even know that limiting is taking place. The result - your HPR system delivers clean, undistorted sound even when you push it hard.

Cross-over
The bi-amplified HPR152F and tri-amplified HPR153F are "active" systems. There are two advantages to an active system.
Advantage 1:
With a conventional passive speaker system, a single amplifier channel covers the entire frequency spectrum. So, when a bass note overdrives an amplifier, the resulting clipping produces harmonics that also go to the mid and high-frequency drivers. The result is audible distortion or, worse yet destruction of the drivers. In bi/tri-amplified systems, only the low-frequency amp would produce distortion while the mid and high frequency amps continue to deliver clean, undistorted sound.
Advantage 2:
Active systems allow far more extensive tailoring of the cross-over response than is possible with passive cross-over networks. The two and three-way HPR models include crossovers that maintain coherent performance across the transition between low, mid and high-frequency drivers.
In addition, these models incorporate a unique, 100 Hz Low-Cut filter. This opens up powerful mixing possibilities.
One subwoofer or many, the HPR subs have crossover functions for any application. The subs' stereo inputs sum the left and right inputs to mono while also giving you a stereo output for a pair of mid-high speakers.
Professional Good Looks and Tour Grade Tough
Rugged 13-ply birch enclosures
The HPR Series loudspeakers are meant to travel and are constructed of premium quality 13-ply birch coated with a tough, professional sprayed finish. Carefully engineered bracing keeps the enclosures rigid for tight, accurate low-frequency performance.
Tour-grade 16-gauge steel grilles
The attractive, powder coated 16-gauge steel grille is built tough to withstand anything that you can throw at it. If you look closely, you can see the slight concave shape of the grille which goes even further to keep it rigid.
Amplifier module
The amp module is constructed using a large heat sink with ample radiating surface so your HPR speakers won't shut down just when the show gets hot. Another example of QSC's attention to details is the beveled edges of the heat sink fins. Sharp edges have been milled off to prevent injuries to users and their gear.
Transport
Rolls with the greatest of ease
Heavy duty 3" wheels on the back of the HPR181W roll easily over cables, thresholds and other obstacles.
Ergonomic handles with comfortable non-slip grip
QSC designed and tooled an ergonomic handle with a comfortable, no-slip grip. Every time you pick up your HPR speaker, you'll be reminded of QSC quality and attention to detail.
Leave the light on... or off
With the HPR Series, you have the option of turning the grille-mounted LED off for situations where it would be distracting.
Going that extra mile
Before any QSC product gets its final approval, it has to pass a multitude of grueling tests. If we can find a way to break it, we will and we'll engineer a fix so it doesn't happen to you. That's what going the extra mile means, more testing, better quality components and a commitment to making the best products possible. Professionals rely on QSC gear every day because it doesn't let them down.
