GLM™ Software with AutoCal™ for PC and Mac

The Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™) software provides necessary control of all loudspeakers and subwoofer on the network via standard CAT5 cabling. All functions and settings are stored in custom user setups or directly into each loudspeaker.  AutoCal™ is an automated algorithm that runs within GLM™ using a calibrated Genelec measurement microphone which sets correctly levels, distance, delays, phase (for subwoofers) and room response equalization which features SinglePoint™ and MultiPoint™ microphone locations for one, two or three-person mixing environments.

 

Good news, DSP sales are increasing. bad news, we are not initially seeing the GLM kits come in with some orders. The order may be generated from a non technical person in your office, we would like to see if you can somehow intervene on the DSP orders to avoid holding up your order, slowing down of the sales process costing all involved selling and support time; and assure that you and your customers receive a complete working system. This could also cause other issues to include possible cancellation or loss of the sale. We will continue to do our part and help you educate those on staff how to spec a system and the benefits of this truly remarkable technology.

One other issue that has come on occasion, is when the customer was not aware that the DSP subwoofer is DIGITAL input only, and the AD9200 A/D converter is not ordered or specked. It is important to remember that there is NO analog inputs to the 7200 series subwoofers. So if they are feeding from an analog source A/D conversion is needed.

FAQ’s to know and share:

Do I need GLM kit if someone said they would come in and do calibration for me?

Not necessarily. If you are not going to ever move your speakers and mark calibration points and set dip switch to the correct position to store settings, you may not need to calibrate again.

What are top reasons for GLM kit?

Obviously to calibrate speakers and get the best performance out of investment into our DSP product.
Ability to toggle between multiple setup files, such as mixer position and producer position. The only way to do this is to have the provided GLM Network Interface connected to your computer.
You plan on mixing in more than one facility and need to calibrate to get a consistent sound from your speakers.
You change your room in any way, shape or form.

Can I download software, and is it free?

Yes, current software is provided free on our website and anyone download and install software on either their PC or Mac. However, to actually do the calibration you also need our microphone and our Network Interface. There are no alternatives to this.

Why don’t you just put the GLM Kit in the box?

While the software is a free download, the cost is in the Network Interface and the microphone. We are actually keeping the price down by not providing it.

If I purchase another system for a multi room facility, do I need another GLM kit to do calibrations?

No you do not. You can add the expansion pack. The expansion pack consist of software and Network Interface at a reduced price. This will allow you to calibrate, using the microphone that came with original GLM kit and the ability to do multiple setup files in the new room.

Couldn’t I just use my original GLM kit that I previously purchased to calibrate another system in another room?

Yes you can. But again, we go back to the question, is this the only position of calibration and do you not plan on moving the speakers? Ask yourself this question, if you are doing multiple set files, can you disrupt the cabling of the systems in the other room to get access to the Network Interface? Hardly worth the cost in time after you exhaust this a couple of times.
